Modern car headlights are made from polycarbonate plastic, not glass. While this material is highly impact-resistant against rocks and debris on Montreal highways, it is extremely vulnerable to the sun. Over time, UV rays, exhaust fumes, and harsh car wash chemicals degrade the factory protective coating on the plastic, causing it to oxidize, yellow, and become cloudy.
Do not fall for DIY "wipe-on" kits or the toothpaste trick. These cheap solutions merely mask the problem with a greasy layer that washes away in a week. To permanently fix cloudy headlights, you have to physically remove the dead layer of oxidized plastic and apply a new, professional-grade UV barrier. That is exactly what our 5-stage restoration process does.
First, we thoroughly clean the headlight housing to remove surface dirt. Then, we apply multiple layers of automotive masking tape around the headlight to ensure your vehicle's paint is completely protected from our sanding equipment.
Using progressively finer grits of wet sandpaper (starting coarse and moving to ultra-fine), we physically strip away the dead, yellowed, and pitted layer of polycarbonate plastic. This exposes the fresh, healthy plastic beneath.
Once the oxidation is removed, the headlight will appear milky white from the fine sanding marks. We use a machine polisher and a heavy-cut compound to erase the sanding scratches and begin restoring clarity to the lens.
We switch to a soft foam pad and a finishing polish to refine the plastic surface. This step extracts maximum optical clarity, making the headlight look crystal clear and brand new again.
This is the most crucial step. Without protection, the fresh plastic will yellow again in weeks. We apply a premium ceramic coating or dedicated UV-sealant that bonds with the plastic, protecting it from future sun damage and keeping it clear for years.
